Pack up your Kilt and Caber

Monday, May 25, 2009

Men in skirts are just some of the attractions of Homecoming Scotland 2009, a 10-month party inspired by the 250th anniversary of the birth of Scotland’s iconic poet, Robert Burns. More than 300 events throughout the country celebrate Scottish ancestry, golf, whiskey, Scottish innovation and Burns.

July 25 and 26, Edinburgh hosts the year’s signature event, The Gathering 2009, which features Scotland’s largest Highland Games (cheer on Canadians tossing heavy poles called cabers), a spectacular historic pageant and a parade of clan members from Scotland and around the globe marching with pipe bands along the Royal Mile.
